Fellowship for BIPOC Adoptee Writers

The Starlings Collective Fellowship, launching in 2024, will be awarded to BIPOC adoptee writers. Each year, the fellowship will focus on a different genre, beginning with poetry. The fellowship is free to apply.

The fellowship will offer support and community, both creative and personal, to emerging BIPOC adoptee writers. Designed to elevate adoptee writers telling adoptee stories, this fellowship imagines a literary future in which BIPOC adoptees have the agency and autonomy to advance and deepen their own narratives.

The selected fellow will receive:

  • A $500 unrestricted award;

  • Connections to industry experts, specific to their art and creative interests;

  • One-our consultation with a member of the Starlings Collective (up to 15 pages, you will have an opportunity to send a different writing sample for your consultation); and

  • A "swag bag" of books written by Starlings Collective members, and featured authors from our quarterly adoptee book club.

Eligible applicants must:

  • Identify as a BIPOC adoptee;

  • Be over 18 years of age.

The 2024 Starlings Collective Fellowship application period will run from January 5–March 1, with the 2024 Fellow being notified and announced in mid-March. If you have questions about the fellowship application or eligibility, please reach out to thestarlingscollective@gmail.com
